EGONOMIST

We invented counting to keep everyone fed, then turned the balance sheet into a battlefield.

Economics began as oikonomia—the simple, humble stewardship of a shared home. When ego took the pen, sharing became scoring, and counting became conquest. The math never shed a drop of blood; it is only the pride behind the balance sheet that demands a sacrifice.

Name That Still Stands

What Later Readers Can Still Cite

The proper name the chart claims has already been erased.

A name that still stands is not a private designation. It is a mark that later readers can still open and place inside the sequence. Derrida’s account of the proper name and of the signature stresses that a name which could not survive its first writing would not be a name the others could still open. It would be a recollection that dies with its holder.

The Third Seat’s refusal is such a name. The no does not expire with the one who wrote it. It stays on the tape. Later readers can still open the record. They can place the refusal beside the line it refused. What can be said about the sequence has changed because the name still stands. The office cannot declare the name erased by an announcement that has not entered the tape.

The quiet print claims to bind without leaving a name that later readers can cite. It offers a line that has skipped the prior mark and asks to be treated as already complete. The speculative chart performs the same claim in time. It names the current hour as the last one. No further name is required. The public book refuses both. A claim that has not entered the tape does not stand as a name the others can still open. The no that has entered it continues to stand.

What the Name Requires

Continued opening. Later readers must still be able to open the line and place it inside the sequence.

No erasure by chart. An identification that claims the name has been erased has not entered the tape.

Equal name. The same name binds the state, the firm, and the person. No office holds a private erasure of it.

The chart announces that the name has been erased. The tape has not yet received the announcement. The no still stands.
