What it argues
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, writing from prison, treated stupidity as a greater threat to a society than open malice. Thomson says he did not mean a foolish act, a hard task, or a fact not yet learned. He meant three habits.
- Outsourcing judgment to a teacher, a crowd, a party, or an app.
- Willful ignorance: celebrating what one will not look up. The Greek name he uses is amathia.
- Conformity: loyalty and identity ranked above a line that can be shown.
The later chapters say power cultivates those habits, that language can spend without a count, and that the reply is skepticism and a look at the row. A memory is not the tape.
Where it sits
Providence through provenance is the opposite of the first habit. The person reads the book. An agent may pay the floor on the clock. It may not answer whether the person deserves it. A moral app would be a second sovereign. A lyric with no origin row is the story that spends like cash. A friend rate and a quiet club are conformity. A missed floor left unnamed is willful ignorance. The film does not mint, does not retire a debt, and does not appoint who may change the schedule.
Use it as a neighbor, beside the eleven doors. Do not make it a doctrine. The order stays the order.
